In May of 2009,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych], Chicago Resident and former basketball player Brandon Williamson had an idea. A self-proclaimed "sneaker-head", that idea has since materialized into "SoleSearch." SoleSearch is the first global directory that caters to the needs of the jet setting, world traveling sneaker aficionado. It is an app that compiles a list of hundreds of boutiques in various countries that specialize in unique sneakers and hard to find releases.
The app is currently available on Apple devices (IPhone, IPad, and IPod Touch) and will be available on the Android market very soon. Sneaker enthusiasts unite. Learn about SoleSearch and get to know one of its creators in the process:
Williamson:I was inspired to create the app due to a number of people always asking me for an itinerary to visit the sneaker boutiques when they traveled to various destinations. It became a bit tedious so I figured why not create something for the sneaker-head on the move. The boutiques are like monuments at the end of the day so the SoleSearch App leads you on a tour of museums all over the world.
Chicago Bball: How long did it take for you to materialize your vision?
Williamson:From the creation of the idea, to learning the programming and then in turn having Apple release it, we took 5 months. May 2009-October 2009, day in and day out! We work fast yet efficiently.
Chicago Bball: Wow. A young man's ambition! What are your future plans/goals for the app?
Williamson: We will be launched onto android devices in December. Then there are some additional developments we will implement to further the stake within the sneaker-heads needs and desires,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych].
Chicago Bball: Is the app where you want it to be right now?
Williamson: I think that we are good as far as the level of the app and its functionality. As far as awareness,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych], we aren't even close. Chicago Bball: How do you think that this app would be beneficial to basketball players?
Williamson: Basketball and sneakers have a much deeper relationship than just the performance based connection; from a ball player just wanting to have the newest pair of sneakers while off the court,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych], to being in a new area for a game, SoleSearch can be beneficial. The sneaker spot is like the heart of any city. It is the melting pot of any cities culture. So,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych], it's the one place that you know you can go to find out where the hottest nightclubs are, the best places to eat,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych], or even where the ladies are! It's extremely helpful to current and former basketball players like myself.
Chicago Bball: What is your definition of a "sneaker enthusiast",[link widoczny dla zalogowanych]?
Williamson: There are a lot of different levels; this is something I've been studying in real life. Just the different levels and breaking down age, geographic location,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych], exposure, financial class,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych], and a few other determining factors of demographic. But the easiest explanation would be an individual who purchases sneakers with no real intent to utilize their actual duty-- choosing "pretty" over performance. For instance,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych], most Jordans are sold for conversation and keeping clean as opposed to seeing if you could really jump higher in them. (Laughing) Well,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych], after you tried to dunk once you finally put them on.
Chicago Bball: How many pairs of sneakers do you own?
Williamson: Yiiiiikes!! I own at least 180 by now. Would be more but I give a lot of pairs away and stuff like that,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych], and I don't get pairs just to add to my collection. I get pairs that I actually like and want to wear. My collection consists of kicks ranging from 1986-2010. That's where I win over a lot of guys who only collect or wear Jordans and/or Air Force One's.
