"It's also been truly humbling to have earned the trust and respect of residents in our district during my tenure in Hartford. I very much value and plan to continue the many relationships I've developed with folks during that time."
Carson was elected to represent the 108th District in 1999,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych], serving residents in New Fairfield,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych], Sherman,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych], Kent and a portion of New Milford.
, a Republican, said while it's easy to say Carson leaves some tough shoes to fill, "I don't begin to know how someone can fill her shoes.
"It will be a tremendous loss for the town of New Fairfield and the entire district,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych]," Hodge said. "While she was always a loyal Republican,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych], when it came to an issue she never played politics. She always put the constituents first."
New Milford Mayor said she also has not heard from anyone who is interested in the position,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych], but she hopes another resident steps up the plate and provides good leadership for the district.
"The northwest corner has a great group of legislators who work well together as a team," Murphy said. "I hope that whoever replaces Carson can continue that legacy."
She said Carson is a good lawmaker who takes the time to listen to her constituents.
"She always listened to what we called about and tried to help,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych]," Murphy said.
State GOP Chairman said he's known Carson for many years and worked on her campaign when she first won the office in a special election in 1999.
Carson replaced state Rep. after Gyle became deputy commissioner of the state ,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych], according to Hodge.
"She's an excellent and down-to-earth person who did a good job representing her district," Healy said of Carson.
Hodge added that Carson's most recent achievements include proposed legislation to limit the size of boats on Candlewood Lake.
