Each customised design is sent to the Timberland-owned Dominican Republic factory in Santiago where the shoes are handmade. Within five weeks, your own wholly original pair of shoes will be delivered to the store for collection.
"This concept caters to individuals who prefer to have an original design for their footwear instead of having the same ones as someone else," explains Timberland Malaysia marketing manager Cheryl Chang.
"It's hugely popular especially among young people particularly as unique, personalised gifts.
"You can select 14-inch women's high boots to our classic two-eye boat shoe with rubber outsole and lightweight leather upper,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych], and the three-eye hand-sewn shoe equipped with a tough rubber lug outsole and a padded collar."
While the brand's classic boat shoes have always been thought to come in brown,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych], the range is actually available in smooth,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych], oiled,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych], burnished and nubuck leathers in various colours.
There are 23 components to choose from, so the design process is fun and pleasurable. Those who favour a timeless look can select a single colour all over the shoe.
To build shoes from heel to toe, first one has to select a preferred style and size. There are handy samples on the shelves to try out first. Next comes the choice for colours for parts one'd never realise existed in a pair of shoe, from the tongue and collar to sides, back, stitching, laces, midsole,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych], outsole and footbed, too.
The 14 shades available range from hot pinks and zesty orange to sweet pastels and lovely chicory blue,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych], periwinkle and indigo. Aside from a choice of colours,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych], one can also fine tune the colour of stitches,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych], hand-sewn thread and hardware such as the eyelets,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych], which look best in antique brass. Finally, one can add an embroidered initial and typeface as well as monograms.
