Monday night the Huskies' men's team played their first home game since Friday's tragic school shooting in Newtown,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych], located less than an hour away at Hartford's XL Center.
Several players showed their support for the victims,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych], but sophomore Ryan Boatright took it a step further in the contest versus Maryland-Eastern Shore,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych], initialing "SH" onto his face for the game.
Via Hartford Courant:
"After the game,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych], an 84-50 UConn victory,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych], Boatright talked of his two sisters - ages 8 and 10 - and said,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych], 'It's just heartbreaking. I can only imagine what those families are going through. My prayers go out to the families.'"
In addition to Boatright's gesture,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych], all of the UConn players wore patches with a green background,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych], black outline and "SH" in white which will remain on their jerseys all season. Several other players also commemorated the tragedy with messages written on their shoes.
