"I made my protest in order that hundreds of thousands, perhaps millions,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych], of people in the rest of the world could see that most Australians were not behind the decision of Australia to enter the war in Iraq.
"Everyone will make their own judgement as to whether it was a worthwhile thing to do,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych], but I ask people to simply remember the gravity of what it is that John Howard did by leading our country into war against another nation."
Jill questioned the gesture of throwing shoes as a protest,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych], which has cultural significance in the Middle East but not in Australia.
"The reason I threw shoes as opposed to a different form of protest is because the throwing of shoes has a particular significance for all the people of the Middle East,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych], and it was really those people who I wished to send a message to,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych]," Peter said.
"It's one of the highest insults you can,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych], dare I say,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych], throw at a person and that's why the Iraqi journalist threw the shoes at George W. Bush and that's why I threw them at John Winston Howard,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych], he deserves a lot worse than that in my opinion.
"People may consider my protest violent,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych], I consider war violent on a totally different scale."
Peter conceded that the reaction of the audience members around him was largely hostile to his actions,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych].
"There were a number of audience members who told me I had bad aim,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych], why didn't I wear a bigger pair of shoes and things like that,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych], but I left the set quite quickly and voluntarily as you may have seen,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych]," he said.
