At Mall of America,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych]
Diana's royal wedding dress is among the dozens of components of a large exhibit covering the princess' very public life that will open in February at the Mall of America.
"Diana: A Celebration" will run from Feb. 4 through June 10 and include her gown from her fairy-tale wedding almost 30 years ago to Prince Charles. Also in the exhibit: 28 of her designer dresses,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych], family heirlooms,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych], personal mementos,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych], items attached to her charity work,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych], paintings, videos and photos.
The 150 objects,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych], which is displayed in nine galleries on Level 4 of the mall, is going to be on loan from Althorp Estate,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych], the Spencer family's 500-year-old ancestral home in England.
Also in the exhibition are the original text from the Earl Spencer's moving tribute to his sister at her 1997 funeral in Westminster Abbey and books of condolences left by people throughout the world,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych].
All profits generated from "Diana: A Celebration" at Althorp Estate and overseas go to the Diana, Princess of Wales Memorial Fund. Since 1998,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych], the exhibition has generated more than $2 million for charities supported by the memorial fund and it has been visited by more than A million people,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych], though it is open there for just 8 weeks out of the year.
John Norman,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych], whose Arts Exhibitions International (AEI) is producing "Diana: A Celebration,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych]," said Tuesday that the Mall of America is definitely an attractive location because "it's always been our goal to achieve the exhibition in places that possess a wide range of traffic so we can expose this to as many people as you possibly can."
Particularly,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych], the AEI president said, "the demographic of people who visit the Mall of America,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych], being primarily women,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych], layers using the demographic of the Diana exhibition."
In other cities, "we typically visit a mother and a daughter,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych], or sometimes the grandmother,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych], the daughter and also the granddaughter,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych]," said Norman,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych], whose Ohio-based company also brought the King Tut artifacts to St. Paul this past year.
Answering an initial contact by Mall of America officials about bringing the exhibition to the Twin Cities, Norman scouted out the location twice and called it "a a real wonderful space," with tall ceilings and more than 10,000 sq ft available.
During its run this year in Might,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych], from March 4 to June 12,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych], attendance topped 105,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych],000. Norman said there might be times on weekends in the mall "when there might be lines to penetrate."
When the exhibition designed a stay in Atlanta early last year,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych], Jamie Gumbrecht from the Atlanta Journal-Constitution wrote, "People who love Diana will like this exhibition, however it doesn't put her lifetime,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych], work and legacy into context from the world. It hardly mentions her divorce from Prince Charles. . There's little detail offered concerning the 1997 car accident,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych], but extensive exhibits dedicated to her funeral,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych], and also the outpouring of sympathy after her death.
"Still,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych], you will find blockbuster moments,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych]," Gumbrecht continued,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych], "tops among them a well-placed turn into a gallery covered with her wedding dress. It's encased in glass, but visitors can see everything from the gown,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych], plus accessories like her shoes,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych], a parasol and bridesmaid's dress."
A gift package will be offered at any Mall of America guest service desk starting Friday until Dec. 24 for $75. It offers two exhibit tickets,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych], two audio tours and something "Diana: A Celebration" catalog. Information about single tickets and group sales is going to be released soon,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych], the mall said.
The exhibition currently reaches the Foxwoods Resort Casino through Jan,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych]. 15 in southeastern Connecticut,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych]. Admission is $25; $20 for seniors and $16 for kids 11 and under.
