Do You Believe Your Child Who Has Autism is Hyperactive?
Your child who has autism,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych], is hyperactive. Is this true? One of the symptoms of children with autism is being over stimulated. In other words, hyperactive. This is one of the common symptoms. You as parent(s),[link widoczny dla zalogowanych], caregiver(s),[link widoczny dla zalogowanych], must be educated and be aware of how to identify this common symptom.
When I was younger, our family discovered my brother was diagnosed with his disorder, and he was hyperactive. We had to learn how to identify the problem and try to understand what was causing his hyperactivity. That was a challenge. Finding and learning what is causing your child to be hyperactive, will minimize it.
I remember the first thing our family tried to do to minimize the hyperactivity in my brother, was to examine what was in the surroundings of our family, and how was it affecting my brother.
The first thing you might want to do, if your are concerned about hyperactivity in your child is to:
*Check if there are loud noises. Some noises that seem normal to you, are considered to be loud to your child who has autism.
*Even buzzing sounds, or noises from refrigerators, washing machines, electric fans, electric motors, hair dryers, electric tooth brushes, sounds of jack hammers working in the streets, or sawing of trees, can be known to cause hyperactivity in your child.
*Lights that are flickering, such as fluorescent light bulbs, neon lights, bright lights, and brilliant colored lights.
*Clothing with a certain texture or colored fabric. This includes rough fabric as well as soft fabric.
*Certain odors or smells, such as laundry detergent, and kitchen odors.
When you are with your child and he or she starts to become hyperactive, take notes on what or where your surroundings are with your child. Are there bright lights, certain smells, is the fabric of the clothes your child is wearing, irritating to him or her.
If you know or have some idea what is causing your child to become hyperactive, start to eliminate those sources, or change the sources to something else. Experiment with those changes and see whether it makes a difference.
For example:
* If you know hyperactivity is caused by bright lights, flickering lights, change the bulbs, use darker shades to block out the light.
* If you know it is the fabric,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych], have your child wear some other kind of clothing with different texture of material.
* If you know it is the food your child is eating, have your child tested for allergies, or eliminate that particular kind of food.
* If you know it is the laundry detergent that is making your child hyperactive, change the detergent
* If you know it is certain smells, or odors, eliminate them.
* If you know it is loud noises, irritating noises, have your child go into another room where there is quiet and peace, until the noise stops. You may want to stop the loud sounds altogether, if are able to.
It is wise to give your child exercise to relieve tension and to alter the excess energy. Walking, throwing a ball, bouncing a ball, kicking a ball, is an excellent way to start to eliminate some of the hyperactivity.
Are you ready to learn and be aware of what may or may not cause hyperactivity in your child and make the changes necessary?
