It's good that India has a menswear week now. Last year I went to its first attempt with plenty of skepticism. But what I got to see there made me realize that our fashion designers,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych], after all,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych], are coming out of their 'fantasy clothes' and are now making commercially viable,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych], wearable ones.
When I used to see some of the collections that used to appear in the middle of womenswear fashion weeks,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych], I always got confused with their looks not knowing whether or not they were meant for men fitted looks, too colourful and too close to the body made them look as if they were either made for ladies or those men who loved to look like ladies.
While I noticed a positive change in the way men clothes are made and presented on Indian catwalks,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych], I feel the event can be made more interesting. I was at the Pitti Immagine Uomo 2010 in Florence earlier this week. There I saw that all forms of accessories - bags, belts, shoes, fragrances, etc - extensively on display at the stalls. Of course, clothes were an integral part of the event, but the organizers made sure that everything connected to men's style are displayed at the venue.
The event was also refreshing in many ways as exhibitors from many parts of Europe made sure that those who visit there get what they wanted in terms or style and substance,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych]. Some stalls just had denims in hundreds of different styles and washes; some had trousers in varied forms; jackets seen in never been before looks; tens of thousands of styles of shirts; sneakers like never before made the event unique and it was reason enough for it to be one of the best in the world.
On lighter note, the event, though exclusively for men, attracted equal number of lady visitors as well. And they came in super sexy outfits. With the Italian summer hovering around 28 degrees, ultra low necks, hot pants and micro minis made sure that men relished their eyes not just on what they were meant to wear!
It will be cool to have such an event here as well when we do our second men's fashion week in Delhi next!
A fine achievement, very heartening that along with the United States, which shares many of India concerns,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych], Saudi Arabia too is helping. The real priority today should be not to advertise Pakistan sponsorship of 26 / 11,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych], which is one more especially destructive and pointless chapter in a very pained relationship, but in ensuring that another act of madness does not take place.
