Taste of the Big Apple
It's 6pm peak hour the carriage is packed and then I realise the 12-year-old boy beside me is about to throw up. With a flick of her wrist his mother tips out her shopping and shoves his head in the plastic bag,new kevin durant shoes 2012.
Welcome to New York.
I am on the No. 6 train heading for the Bronx and the baseball at Yankee Stadium, duvetica down jackets men, an ambition I have harboured since seeing Kevin Costner strutting his stuff in Bull Durham.
Now I've been to a baseball game,http://monclerjackenoutletch.albirank.net/, I can understand the American infatuation: you don't go to watch a game you go to experience the organ music,Parajumpers on Sale, entertainment, crackerjacks and hotdogs. Plus the sporting side.
Before you go to the Big Apple as a novice, you should buy a comprehensive map showing the subway and points of interest.
It's a great help when booking accommodation and working out an itinerary.
We bought a seven-day Metrocard for $A32, allowing us unlimited travel on trains and local buses.
But remember, avoid peak hours because the trains are overcrowded and the subway atmosphere stifling.
Accommodation can be expensive but there are plenty of hostels and B offering a cheaper alternative, and a quick check of the Internet will deliver a host of prices and locations.
If you like boutique hotels and have a passion for books, the Library Hotel on Madison Ave could be the answer. Operating on the Dewey system, rooms contain a collection of books covering that floor's subject. If you request a room on the ninth floor, duvetica outerwear, for example, you can settle in a chair with a selection of books on geography and travel or history. We stayed at the Beacon Hotel on the Upper West Side. It's mid-range in price, located two blocks from the American Museum of Natural History and Central Park, a block from the 72nd Street subway station on Broadway.
From here it is a 10-minute ride to the centre of downtown Manhattan. A bonus is the kitchenette which gave us an excuse to visit Fairway Market, an old-fashioned marketplace opposite the hotel.
Fairway offers a vast range: barrels of olives, fresh fish, fruit and vegetables, gourmet cheeses, rows of bakery items and fresh soup. Eating out does not have to be expensive. Everywhere there are delis which will deliver a decent lunch for $7-$8.
Whether you want to shop or sightsee, New York's Gray Line Hop-On Hop-Off tour includes downtown, uptown and night loops as well as one to Brooklyn. Tickets ($34 for adults, woolrich bedding, $24 children) are valid for 48 hours. You can get off at any time, duvetica down jackets men sale, explore,http://duveticaouterwear.blogspot.com/, then catch the next big red double-decker bus running at regular intervals. You shouldn't have to wait more than 10 minutes.
The loop ticket gives you entry to the Empire State Building's observatory but not to the Skyride,デュベティカ 店舗, which is an attraction within the building. It is a white-knuckle ride in a flight simulator that takes you on an aerial tour of New York. For those who aren't on a tour, it's better value to purchase a combination ticket for the Empire State Building and the Skyride: $43 for adults and $30 for children.
The Gray Line ticket includes a ferry trip to Ellis Island and the Statue of Liberty and their museums,http://duveticashop.olimx.com/.
On the downtown loop we got off at Canal Street, eventually finding our way to Mulberry Street in Little Italy, home to great Italian eateries.
Apart from eating, we fitted in some serious shopping. Although both Macy's and Bloomingdale's offer discount shopping cards for international visitors, the best shopping find was Filene's Basement on Broadway in the Upper West Side, which has designer men's and women's clothing, shoes,http://discountnikesoccershoes.webmium.com/, jewellery and home wares at bargain basement prices. Expect to pay a lot less than you would in am Austalian department store.
To cover all the city's museums, you need an extended stay. You could easily spend a week exploring the Metropolitan Museum of Art, the Museum of Natural History and the Guggenheim Museum.
We found one of the best guides to the city was a small box of 52 palm-sized cards called City Walks: New York 50 Adventures on Foot,http://duveticaoutletcanada.halod.com/.
Pick any card from this little box of treasures and start exploring. You can buy it from Barnes Noble bookstores for about $18,デュベチカ 通販.
No matter how much or how little time you have in New York,http://merrellshoesonsaleformen.blogspot.com/, you must include Central Park in the itinerary. You can join a walking tour, go it alone or pick up a ride in one of the horse-drawn carriages which, be warned,Discount Soccer Cleats Clearance Cleats, can be somewhat on the nose.
