Forever 21 is looking sharp
/> />I spent a lot of time in the new 86,000-square-foot Forever 21 store in Cerritos recently,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych], researching cover story for Sunday Image section about the brand and Linda and Esther Chang,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych], the of the fast-fashion chain founders, Don and Jin Sook Chang. The twentysomething sisters have been working for the company for the last year,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych], in the marketing and visuals departments, and eventually take over the $2- billion business. They are bright young women and wholly dedicated.
And I have to say, the Cerritos store (the prototype for all Forever 21 stores going forward) is a lot of fun in the same way that the TopShop store on Oxford Street in London is, and Fiorruci in New York used to be. In other words, you can spend hours in the place,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych], find some great steals and not spend a lot of money. All eight of Forever 21 collections are represented in the two-level store,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych], which occupies an old Mervyn space, including the new kids and men lines, beauty products,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych], jewelry and shoes.

Tina if you feel that strongly about it, you free to provide employment to all those garment workers (and I know you pay them over market wages) employed in this country by Forever 21. I guess according to you only rich liberals should be able to afford those clothes.
You have your head so far up your self-righteous posterior that you can see how insipid your whine is,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych]. Why would an article on clothing trends talk about some labor disupte? Do you go around posting on ESPN how Nike exploited workers in SE Asia in sweatshops every time Lebron James or Dwayne Wade name is brought up? Hypocrite.
Dear All,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych], I think the argument is no longer whether Forever 21 enforces sweatshop conditions but rather what they are doing to fashion designers. When Forever 21 first started in LA they may have had to sub par working conditions like many others,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych], but economic circumstances and work-environment laws drove manufacturing costs up and their manufacturers to produce overseas. I know a few of their manufacturers. Forever 21 does drive a very hard bargain to make these manufacturers provide their products at very very low cost (which is tough to keep up),[link widoczny dla zalogowanych], but the working condition is up to each independent contract manufacturers; the manufacturers I know of who tried so hard to earn F21 business do not mistreat their workers but some are out of business because they can no longer meet the competition to give F21 the lowest cost. As long as consumers demand these prices, nothing will change. What I like to see is for F21 to start making more of their own designs rather than selling knock-offs that can hardly be distinguished from the original. Talented designers are out of jobs because companies now believe low prices are what bring the customers in,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych], not the designs; please help to protect good designs and continue to support your favorite designers.
its great to shop there but working for that company is really depressing and yes i am a forever employee. we are forced to work 6 hours without lunch breaks,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych], and i loathe how despite how much money this company makes the only "benefit" for part time employess (usually everyone) is a mediocre 10% discount (taxes). this company is getting rich not only off sweatshop labor in its factories but also from its actual stores. corporate at forever 21 clearly doesnt show much interest in the employees (a 1,000 scholarship offer doesnt say much), they just demand money to be made every hour every day. the reason why many of us are still there is because no one else is hiring. dont get me wrong the merchandise is really gorgeous and well priced, my rant is about the people who have built this company- the sales associates and its management team in each individual store who are being overlooked. yes there will be someone that says " well you can always call corp and complain," we dont even have their number at the store! youd think that with all this money the employees would be offered incentives or benefits aside what they dare call a discount. i hope that with this in mind customers are more aware of who theyre giving their money to, im not initiating a boycott- just some thoughts for when you shop there next time.
