Bitter rivals Manchester United and Liverpool come together for bizarre Chevrolet advert
Theyhave been bitter rivals on and off the pitch for decades but now a bizarre advert has put history to one side and joined United and Liverpool TOGETHER,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych].
US car maker Chevrolet has released a controversial 45-second advert featuring players from both clubs, talking about their shared values and success.
The video - already viewed by more than 300,000 people on YouTube - features Ryan Giggs, Paul Scholes,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych], Rio Ferdinand and Robin van Persie for United and Joe Allen,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych], Jonjo Shelvey,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych], Glen Johnson and Jordan Henderson for Liverpool.
They speak the same words about their club side-by-side in the split image - with the clip switching between the various players.
The film starts with Giggs and Henderson and the shared words are: "I play for the greatest club in the world. A club over a hundred years in the making,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych].
"Our ground plays host to nights of magic - where heroes are born and dreams come true,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych].
"That's where my heart beats hardest. With the singing from the stands all in red,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych]. A choir of thousands to lift us up,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych].
"We have conquered the leagues of England and Europe. Our city stops every time we play.
"Our greatness spurring on our rivals to bigger efforts and greater achievements. And now it is our turn to add to this legacy,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych]. Together all of us will shape the next chapter because our hearts beat for the greatest club in the world."
The footage was released by Chevrolet, which sponsors the two clubs, ahead of a meeting of the giants in the Premier League at Old Trafford on Sunday
It has raised a few eyebrows among fans online - with many posting their anger and bemusement on YouTube,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych].
One wrote: "What an absolutely horrendous ad. What was Chevy thinking? I mean, I have no words really."
Another said: "That's the stupidest ad possible- trying to bring together Manchester United and Liverpool. How daft are the people at Chevrolet,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych]?"
But some United supporters used it as an excuse to goad their rivals - poking fun at their choice of players in the film, writing that the likes of Giggs and Scholes were football legends but argued that Henderson and Shelvey were yet to prove themselves on the world stage.
Chevrolet did not comment on the footage but explained the video online,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych], writing: "Two great clubs and on the pitch,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych], one great rivalry. Manchester United and Liverpool FC are unified by a mutual respect and driven by success, excellence and the support of their passionate fans. What are you #DrivenBy?"
if Chevy are rubbish ? it about time you get a test drive !! just picked up my 3 new car in a row the aveo vcdi Eco LT model,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych], recommended as the best model in the range by the motoring press !! and with more toys than you shack a stick at. free road tax cheap insurance and not that sluggish,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych], best car they have made so far for a town car. a very happy customer. and why would a poncy player drive a Chevy ? its all in the badge but they will take there money no problems the corporate prostitutes they are.
